With seven world premieres under its belt and ten more scheduled in its upcoming season, Great Noise Ensemble is a working embodiment of its mission to fight for the performance of new American works and to promote local talent in contemporary music.

Forged on the internet in the summer of 2005, Great Noise Ensemble was formed when a call went out on craigslist.com from composer/conductor Armando Bayolo. Seven area musicians united by their passion for new music answered, and from this core group the ensemble has grown into the twenty instrumentalists and two singers which now comprise its core membership.

In the group’s first season they presented concerts throughout the Washington, D.C. area and at Shenandoah University, garnering praise from Gail Wein (NewMusicBox.org) from their first performance. During their second season they served as the ensemble in residence for the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the American Composers Forum and were nominated for a Best New Artist award by the Washington Area Music Association.

In 2007, Great Noise Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Second Annual Capital Fringe Festival as well as the concert series at the National Gallery of Art and Catholic University. They will be a part of the Worldwide Concurrent Premieres and Commissioning Fund’s world premiere of a new work by renowned composer Michael Finnissy as well as performing the world premiere of the group’s first commission, Carlos Carrillo's Songs of Time and Distance.
